Meet Henry
I’m Henry, Laura’s therapy dog at Birmingham Anxiety & Trauma Therapy. Unlike most therapy dogs, I don’t work in the office—I’m part of the teletherapy team!
That means I get to help from the comfort of home while you get to have therapy from the comfort of yours.
What Do I Do During Teletherapy?
My job is pretty important. I help make therapy feel a little more comfortable and a lot less intimidating.
You might see me sitting beside Laura, taking a nap in the background, or occasionally popping onto the screen to say hello. I’m an excellent listener, and I never judge—even if you show up to therapy in your pajamas.
Sometimes talking about anxiety, trauma, stress, relationships, or other difficult things can feel overwhelming. When that happens, I might make an appearance to help lighten the moment or remind you to slow down and take a breath.
What Are My Qualifications?
I have several areas of expertise:
Making people smile when they’re having a hard day
Listening without interrupting
Providing moral support from across the screen
Reminding everyone that taking a break is okay
Helping teletherapy feel warm and welcoming
Knowing exactly when Laura has a snack nearby
I work with both adults and children, and I’m happy to say hello—or stay quietly in the background. You’re in charge.
The Best Part About My Job
Therapy doesn’t always have to feel serious. Sometimes healing includes talking about difficult things, and sometimes it includes laughing when a dog unexpectedly sticks his face in the camera.
So when you meet with Laura for teletherapy, keep an eye out for me.
Laura handles the therapy. You bring yourself. I’ll bring the tail wags.
See you on screen!
