About Our Practice

We’re proud of our team, what we do, and what we stand for.

Birmingham Anxiety & Trauma Therapy (BATT) has been providing mental health services to the Greater Birmingham Area since 2004.

BATT is the brainchild of Dr. Diana Paulk. Dr. Paulk originally moved to Birmingham in 2001 to take a research professor position at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. After about three years of working on large scale multidisciplinary projects, Dr. Paulk realized that she missed her first love – private practice!

Formerly called Restoration Counseling Services, BATT was originally located in the Crestline area. In 2004, BATT moved to Homewood to be more centrally located and accessible to more people. In a few years, we outgrew the Homewood facility and found our current home in Vestavia Hills.

Our hope is to offer a place where people from all walks of life can feel accepted and cared for, no matter their current mental health challenges. BATT seeks to be a place where people feel special because they ARE special – a place where people are treated like kings and queens beginning the moment they step into our offices.

Our therapists all specialize in trauma and anxiety, but each therapist also has their own unique specialty. We want to provide people with the services they need in an environment that is nurturing and where folks feel comfortable talking about their personal experiences.

We want people to feel at home the moment they walk in the door! We offer your choice of eighteen therapists to ensure a great client-therapist fit. And each therapist looks forward to offering you a unique treatment approach that will hopefully foster new ways to approach life and open up solutions for a brighter tomorrow.
