What is teletherapy?
Teletherapy is a way of providing therapy services through the internet, allowing people to receive counseling and support from a therapist without having to be in the same physical location. Instead of going to a therapist's office, clients can connect with their therapist at BATT from the comfort of their own home or any other private space.
Benefits of online therapy
Online therapy can be especially helpful for people with busy schedules or those who live in remote areas. Teletherapy makes it easier for people who have mobility issues or other barriers to attending in-person sessions, but some people simply feel more comfortable talking to a therapist from their own space rather than going to an office. Finally, teletherapy allows for more consistent care, even if you or your therapist need to travel or relocate.
How does teletherapy work?
You call us to set up an appointment with one of our therapists.
When it’s time for your session, your therapist emails you a link to open your session.
You’ll immediately see your therapist on the screen, and your therapist will see you.
Your copay is usually the same, and our administrators will check your insurance benefits to make sure it is a covered service to you. We also have self-pay options available.
Teletherapy is as easy as opening an email or text and clicking a link! Our therapists will walk you through the process at the beginning of your first session, and continue to check in with you to make sure that teletherapy is still a good option for you.
We serve children, teens, and adults via online therapy!

Protecting your privacy during teletherapy sessions
Privacy is a crucial aspect of online therapy (teletherapy) at BATT, and it is our hope that understanding how your privacy is protected by our therapists can help you feel more secure and confident in using these services. Here’s what you need to know about privacy and online therapy:
Just like in traditional, in-person therapy, confidentiality is a top priority in online therapy. Our therapists are legally and ethically bound to keep your information private. They are required to follow strict guidelines, such as those outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the United States, which mandates the protection of your personal health information.
All BATT teletherapy sessions are conducted on doxy.me, which is a secure platform designed to protect your privacy. Our platform uses encryption to ensure that your conversations are confidential and that no unauthorized parties can access them. Your therapist will email an invitation to your counseling session that contains a link with which you can connect. Beyond just the therapy session itself, BATT therapists store session notes and billing information via an encrypted electronic health information platform desired to keep your information protected and safe. Your information is only accessible to authorized personnel.
Before starting online therapy, our Solution Advocates will email an invitation to an online portal containing documents that explain our privacy policies and obtain your informed consent. This includes explaining how your information will be protected, what steps are in place to ensure confidentiality, and any potential risks involved in online communication.
While BATT therapists ensure that their end of the communication is secure, you also play a role in protecting your privacy during online therapy sessions. Here are a few tips:
- Find a quiet, private place where you won’t be interrupted or overheard during your session.
- Using headphones can help keep your conversations more private and reduce the chances of someone overhearing the therapist’s responses.
- Make sure your computer or phone is protected with a password, and that you completely log out of your therapy platform after each session.
While online therapy is generally safe and private, it’s important to be aware of potential risks. There’s always a chance of technical glitches, like internet disruptions, which could interrupt a session. You and your therapist will develop a plan for how to deal with this should this happen. Although rare, there’s a risk of unauthorized access if your device or the therapist’s platform is not properly secured.
Online therapy at BATT offers a convenient and accessible way to receive mental health support, and privacy is a key component of its success. By using secure platforms, following confidentiality rules, and taking steps to create a private environment, you and your therapist can ensure that online therapy is a safe and confidential experience. If you have any concerns about privacy, don’t hesitate to discuss them with your therapist before beginning your sessions.
