Our therapist Wes Akins has been practicing social work for over 30 years. His professional experiences include teaching students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as they prepare to make a positive impact on our world. He has had the privilege of providing therapy to a wonderfully diverse population and has witnessed the growth and healing that can occur when we take that first step towards change by reaching out for counseling. That first step is often the most difficult but with it comes a fierce determination to continue forward. His areas of specialization include grief, self empowerment and trauma. He utilizes a variety of evidence-based interventions that are individualized for each person. He believes that the
partnership between the therapist and client is based on empathy, respect and trust. He is committed to providing a compassionate and safe place for you to grow and heal . He hopes that he can be a part of your journey.
In His Personal Life
Wes was a foster parent for years and has one adopted son that resides in France. He is grateful to have a close family and circle of friends that he is able to share his life journey with. Wes enjoys traveling, reading, creating art and being outdoors. He is involved in numerous social justice initiatives and believes that education and growth is a lifetime experience.
